Blue

Blue focused on a spot about eight feet up the wall, listening to Rhodes sing and contemplating joining in. Below her, Lexi watched them all with an irritated scowl. “I’ve never even heard this song before.” She pulled on Greenlee’s hand. “Is this some old person thing?”

Everyone laughed as he feigned offense. “It is from a movie you will never see.”

Devon wrinkled her nose. “You are right. It hasn’t aged well.”

Kendra shrugged from where she observed everything on the couch. “Seems kinda spot-on to me.”

“Shut up, Kendra!” Blue yelled over Rhodes singing. She took a deep breath and finished the chorus of the most ridiculous song ever. Except the one Rhodes wrote. She had to admit this was fun. She had sung nothing other than silly karaoke in the past decade or the seven-year pocket in between, and she missed it.

Hale circled them like they were a piece of artwork at a museum. “Wow?”

Rhodes finished the chorus he was on. He actually sounded winded now. “Better, Lexi?”

Lexi still gaped. “Um? Only if she can get down without getting hurt.”

“Tough crowd.” Rhodes lowered himself slowly down opposite of the way he went up, arms shaking now. Blue had to work harder to maintain her balance, but eventually they ended up in the original flying pose on the ground, smiling like loons.

Harper now actively fanned herself. “Lord have mercy, I’m going to have to take a cold shower.”

Hale winked and put his back to the wall, pulling his notebook from his pocket. “How about I join you?”

Harper flopped back onto the couch dramatically, still fanning. “When the world isn’t ending, Sexy.”

Kendra waggled her finger. “Uh uh uh. We can’t date clients.”

Hale glanced quickly away from his notebook toward Rhodes. “You still our client?”

Finn and Rhodes answered at the same time. “Nope.”

Hale resumed scribbling. “It’s a date, then.”

Harper looked over at Kendra. “Kay Kay, how did we live with him for years and not know about this?”

Kendra wrinkled her nose. “There was a reason so many groupies turned into stalkers.”

Rhodes shifted his head just enough to glare at her.

Lexi’s eyes shifted back and forth between the two women with a frown. “Why?”

Hale and Finn both snorted and turned away to hide their laughter. Kendra’s ranting about Rhodes’ antics while on tour was an endless source of amusement for Blue and most of the Herne team. She actually had to call in back-up for the scene in Miami. Once it was wrapped up, the balcony jumping contest ensued.

Devon’s face flamed, and she pointed at Kendra in accusation. “Little ears.”

“Not so little ears,” Ben tilted his head pointedly at Ava, whose face now rested in her hand, laughing silently.

Kendra did not look apologetic at all. “What? They were a pain in my ass.”

Blue’s body shook with laughter now, head down, hair falling all over Rhodes’ face. He blew at her hair in annoyance. “What do you say? Impress the kid?” Blue tilted her head mischievously.

Rhodes rolled his eyes, sweat soaking through his shirt and rolling down his face.
